Admission Procedure

Should your doctor advise treatment that requires hospitalisation, information here will facilitate your admission and help to make your stay with us a pleasant and comfortable experience.

Planning your admission

Please inform the Admissions Office of the date of your proposed admission if this has already been agreed upon between you and your doctor. Otherwise, please discuss and decide with the Admissions Office a suitable date for your admission. The Admissions Office should be contacted well in advance so that necessary formalities and other procedures can be completed prior to your admission.

Accommodation & Meals

Al Zahra Hospital offers two grades of accommodation, viz. Luxury Suites and Private Rooms. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are fully furnished with individually controlled air-conditioning, international direct dial telephones, mini-fridge, and multi-channel satellite television. Please indicate your choice of accommodation to the Admissions Officer who will try to comply subject to availability.

A wide choice of Arabic, Asian and Continental selections are available from the meal service. Vegetarian preferences and other special diets are also catered. Patients' meals are included in the room charge. Meals and refreshments for guests can be ordered at an extra charge.

On the day of Admission

While most surgical patients are admitted on the morning of the planned surgery, some conditions requiring pre-operative preparations and anaesthetic evaluation necessitate coming into hospital a day earlier.

Upon arrival, proceed to the Admissions Office which functions from 7 AM to 8 PM all seven days of the week. If you arrive after 8 PM, please contact the Nurse-In-Charge in the Out-patients Department. After completing necessary documentation, you will be shown to your room.

Personal Requisites

The hospital provides pyjamas and dressing gowns. You may, however, wish to bring your own clothes, bedroom slippers and toiletries. Clothing should be loose and preferably front-opening.

We recommend that you leave all valuables and jewellery at home. Alternatively, a safe deposit box is available for use free of charge. Please contact the Sister Incharge on your floor should you wish to use this facility. Deposits and withdrawals are possible during working hours of the hospital administration.

For Mothers-To-Be

If you are having a baby, it is best to pack a suitcase two weeks in advance. Include two each of front-opening night gowns, nursing bras, baby vests, baby gowns, mittens, and wrapping blankets.

You must also remember to bring along copies of your and your husband's passports. All births have to be notified to the concerned authorities within 24 hours with details of the parents' passports.

Overnight Guests

The hospital allows one parent to stay with his/her child upto 12 years of age free of charge. Should you wish to have a family member or attendant stay overnight, there is an extra charge which covers provision of a fold-away bed.

Visiting Hours

Normal visiting hours are from 8.30 AM to 8 PM. For reasons of your health and that of other patients, it is best not to have more than three visitors at any one time. Children must be accompanied by an adult. We recommend that children below 7 years of age do not visit the hospital. Please ensure that your visitors do not disturb other patients.

Cancellation

If for any reason you are unable to keep your appointment for admission, please inform your doctor and the Admissions Office at least 24 hours in advance. Your co-operation will assist us in meeting the needs of other patients.

Payment Terms

Self-paying Patients

Hospital policy requires that self-paying patients deposit the estimated cost of treatment prior to or at the time of admission. Cost estimates can be obtained from the Admissions Office prior to admission.

Payment can be made in cash or by credit card. The hospital accepts American Express, Visa and MasterCard. We regret our inability to accept personal cheques.

Company Sponsored Patients

If your treatment has been sponsored by your or your spouse's employer, please inform the Admissions Office well in advance and ensure that all necessary authorisations and other documents are in order.

Insured Patients

The hospital has arrangements for settling treatment expenses directly with all major health insurance companies. Among others, these include Alliance, ADNIC, ALICO, BUPA International, HealthNet, MedNet, Oman Insurance, PPP, etc. (Please see Insurance Affiliates). Most require the planned treatment to be pre-authorised to qualify for direct settlement. Please contact the Admissions Office well in advance with full details of your planned treatment and insurance cover. They will let you know if your treatment has been approved by the insurers for direct settlement or not. Expenses not covered by insurance plans will have to be settled by yourself in cash or by credit card.
