| Chairman stresses need for developing guidelines to combat pediatric asthma increase | ||
H. E. Dr. Sheikh Faisal Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Chairman, Al Zahra Hospital, has called upon the need developing guidelines for the management and control of paediatric asthma. In a message to the 2nd Al Zahra Symposium on Paediatric Asthma held on 22 January 2004 , he called upon the medical community to study the causes and come up with a positive strategy to combat the rapid increase in paediatric asthma. “All developed countries have set guidelines for the control and management of this disease, and similar steps need to be taken here in the UAE”, he stressed. The symposium, part of Al Zahra's on-going Continuing Medical Education programme, was attended by leading paediatricians and other health professionals from all over the UAE.

| Al Zahra laser vision clinic now offers customised vision correction | ||
Al Zahra's dedicated Laser Vision Clinic, established in Dubai since 1993, has acquired the latest 4th generation MEL80 Excimer laser from Carl Zeiss, Germany . In addition to PRK and LASEK, the centre now offers LASIK with WASCA wave front analysis.

| Good news for all heart attack victims! Specialised cardiac care ambulance acquired | ||
A recent addition to Al Zahra's ambulance fleet is a state-of-the-art Cardiac Care Ambulance. The vehicle, the size of a normal-sized living room, is equipped with the latest cardiac resuscitation and monitoring equipment. “Early intervention is the key to successful management of a heart attack”, remarked Dr. Abhay Pande, Al Zahra's Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. “We can now provide prompt attention at the victim's door-step and follow it up at our state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Lab”, he added.

| New appointment - Dr. Nazimul Hussain | ||
Dr. Nazimul Hussain obtained his masters in ophthalmology (MS) in 1996 from Gauhati University and Diplomate of National Board (Ophthalmology) in 1997. He completed his fellowship training in vitreoretinal retinal disease (1997-98) from the prestigious L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, India. During his fellowship, he was awarded the “Best Ophthalmology fellow”.
He worked as consultant in Smt. Kanuri Santhamma Retina Vitreous Centre, L.V. Prasad eye Institute, Hyderabad, India from 1998 – 2001. From 2001 -2003, he worked as an Asst. Medical Director and Vitreoretinal Surgeon in Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Pvt. Ltd. From 2003 until December 2007, he was working as an Associate professor, Chief of Macula centre and Incharge Zeiss Laser training at Smt. Kanuri Santhamma Retina Vitreous Services, L.V. Dr Sammour received his MBCh.B degree from Ein Shams University – Cairo with distinction in 1976 and his FRCS from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 1986. Dr Sammour is a fellow or a member of many professional societies among them the SAGES: The Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, EAES : The European Association of Endoscopic Surgeons, Asia Pacific Hernia Society and the Indian Hernia Society. M.Sc. Endodontics, BDS Specialist in Conservative Dentistry Work Experience: Dr Younan has received her M.Sc degree in Conservative dentistry in 1999 from the University of Baghdad/ Iraq. She received her B.D.S degree in Dentistry in 1994 from the University of Baghdad/ Iraq. After graduation she became a faculty member in the department of Conservative dentistry/ College of Dentistry/ Baghdad University/ Iraq.
