The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Department covers three main areas consisting of Otology, Head and Neck surgery, and Facial Aesthetics.

Within the Otology Department is an Audiology Section, run by fully qualified Audiologists. Here, assessment of loss of hearing in patients, both adults and children, is undertaken. This department also has computerised testing of Brain Stem Evoked Potentials for evaluating hearing in newborn babies. Within the department there is a resident Speech Therapist.

The department performs microsurgery of the ear. Under the supervision of Prof. Derald E. Brackmann, President of the House Ear Institute, Los Angeles, USA, and visiting surgeon at Al Zahra, the department runs a successful Cochlear Implant programme. Prof. Brackmann is a pioneer in Cochlear Implant surgery - a procedure that has revolutionised the treatment of both congenital and acquired deafness. Consultants also treat vertigo and dizziness due to problems in the inner ear.

The second section of the department is responsible for diagnosing diseases of the head and neck. Al Zahra consultants perform endoscopic sinus surgery as well as uvulopalatopharyngoplasty for the treatment of heavy snoring. The department diagnoses problems of the larynx and pharynx as well as detection of head and neck tumours. All voice disorders are dealt with and treated by the consultants. Laser techniques are employed wherever necessary.

The Facial Aesthetic Department has performed several hundred cases of rhinoplasty. Blepharoplasty, neck and face-lifts are done regularly, as well as cheek and chin augmentation. The consultants also practice liposuction to the chin. A photo analysis unit is employed in all aspects of facial aesthetics.
