Prof. Pande has over 15 years of experience in Cardiology dedicated mainly to Interventional Cardiology at leading hospitals in Switzerland, Canada, and Qatar.
He graduated from Nagpur University, India, in 1980 earning the "Best Student" and "Prince of Wales" Awards. After obtaining his DM in Cardiology from the University of Bombay in 1986, and Diplomate of National Board (Cardiology) in 1987, Dr. Pande trained in Interventional Cardiology at the Cardiology Centre, University Hospital, Geneva, Switzerland, under the guidance of Prof. Bernhard Meier and Wilhelm Rutishauser, pioneers in the field of Interventional Cardiology. He returned to India in 1992 after receiving his MD from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, to work as Consultant Invasive Cardiologist at the Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi. In 1993 he was elected to the Fellowship of the American College of Cardiology, followed by the Fellowship of the European Society of Cardiology in 1997.
From 1994 to 1996 he worked at the world famous Montreal Heart Institute, Canada. Subsequently he worked for over two years as Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Cardiac Cath Lab at the Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar, and King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Prior to joining Al Zahra, Prof. Pande was Professor and Head, Department of Cardiology, Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, India.
Prof. Pande has extensive experience in all non-invasive and invasive aspects of cardiology. These include 2-D echocardiography and colour doppler studies, transoesophageal, Dobutamine and exercise stress echocardiography and ambulatory electrocardiography. His clinical experience covers the management of cardiogenic shock and the use of cardiac support systems such as intra-aortic balloon pumps. In the field of Interventional Cardiology, he has performed more than 5000 coronary interventions including Coronary Angioplasty, Coronary stenting, Rotablater, Directional atherectomy, and Intravascular Ultrasound.
He has been the Course Director for Angioplasty courses at Geneva & India and has a strong research interest with more than 100 publications in peer reviewed scientific journals. He is on the Editorial Board of the Indian Heart Journal and Journal of Association of Physicians of India. He introduced 4F catheters and pioneered work in the downsizing of guiding catheters for Coronary Angioplasty thus reducing groin complications. He also developed and perfected the technique of Intracoronary ECG and Coronary and Left Ventricular pacing. His work has been cited in the Textbook of Heart Diseases by E. Braunwald and Topol.
