Dr. Thorwid obtained his postgraduate qualifications from the Eastman Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and has been a Consultant in his field since 1977.
During the course of his appointments as Orthodontist at the County Council Hospital, Vasteras, Sweden, and at Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA, Dr. Thorwid developed a special interest in the field of orthognathic surgery.
After joining Al Zahra in 1992, Dr. Thorwid has been the driving force in establishing the orthodontic service where patients of all ages are treated along the internationally renowned techniques developed by Dr. Richard Alexander of Arlington, Texas, USA.
Also at Al Zahra, Dr. Thorwid pioneered the introduction of the Dental Implantology programme in collaboration with Dr. Lars Andersson, Visiting Consultant Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgeon, from Sweden. This programme has been running since March 1992 and more than 100 patients have been successfully treated using the Swedish Branemark System. Dr. Thorwid is specially trained to manage the prosthetic aspect of the programme.
Dr. Thorwid has made several scientific presentations at Annual Meetings of the Swedish Dental Union and other professional gatherings, and through regular attendance at courses and seminars, keeps himself abreast with the latest developments in orthodontics and orthognathic surgery.
