| Chairman stresses need for developing guidelines to combat pediatric asthma increase | ||
H. E. Dr. Sheikh Faisal Bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Chairman, Al Zahra Hospital, has called upon the need developing guidelines for the management and control of paediatric asthma. In a message to the 2nd Al Zahra Symposium on Paediatric Asthma held on 22 January 2004 , he called upon the medical community to study the causes and come up with a positive strategy to combat the rapid increase in paediatric asthma. “All developed countries have set guidelines for the control and management of this disease, and similar steps need to be taken here in the UAE”, he stressed. The symposium, part of Al Zahra's on-going Continuing Medical Education programme, was attended by leading paediatricians and other health professionals from all over the UAE.

A recent addition to Al Zahra's ambulance fleet is a state-of-the-art Cardiac Care Ambulance. The vehicle, the size of a normal-sized living room, is equipped with the latest cardiac resuscitation and monitoring equipment. “Early intervention is the key to successful management of a heart attack”, remarked Dr. Abhay Pande, Al Zahra's Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. “We can now provide prompt attention at the victim's door-step and follow it up at our state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterisation Lab”, he added.

Dr. Sandip Mitra MBBS, MD (Ophth.), FRCS (Edin.), FRCOphth. ( UK ), Fellow of Corneal & Refractive Surgery ( Australia ) Consultant Ophthalmologist Dr. Mitra is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of United Kingdom . He trained in Vitreo-retinal Surgery at the Moorefield Hospital , London , and specialised further in Corneal & Refractive Surgery at the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital , University of Melbourne , Australia .Prior to joining Al Zahra, Dr. Mitra headed the Department of Ophthalmology at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital , Sultanate of Oman. Dr. Mitra's main interests are corneal & refractive surgery such as LASIK , LASEK and PRK (including wave front customized ablation), suture-less phacoemulsification , glaucoma & vitreo-retinal surgery. |
